Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working members of the British Royal Family, they have stopped using their Sussex Royal Instagram Account.

This social media strategy breaks from the tradition of sharing stories online by Prince Harry’s father Prince Charles and brother Prince William notably.

When the British media inquired about the status of the Sussex Royal Instagram account in January, Prince Harry’s responded to Fast Company.

He said “We (himself and Meghan Markle) will revisit social media when it feels right for us — perhaps when we see more meaningful commitments to change or reform — but right now we’ve thrown much of our energy into learning about this space and how we can help.”

While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle consider when the best time to return to social media, there are consequences. Instagram will delete inactive user accounts from one to two years after inactivity altogether. So should the Sussexes return to Instagram, they may need to create a new Instagram account or reach out to reactive Sussex Royal (under a new name).

What do you think? Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle breaking tradition by not having an Instagram account?
